The National 50m Swimming Pool has played host to several events of differing disciplines and standards over the years. For example, Provincial and National championships can be catered for in long course or short course format.
For short course events, the boom is moved to the middle of the pool to allow for 2 x 10 lane 25m pools - one for warm-up and the other for competition. Short course events that have been held at our facility include The Munster Schools Gala, The Munster Short Course Championships, The National Division Two Championships, and the fantastic World Down Syndrome Meet in October 2006.
Long course events also take place in our 10 lane 50m pool. The Dave McCullough Meet, The Limerick SC Invitation, and the inaugural Irish Open Long Course Masters Championships (organised by Limerick Masters SC) are examples of such competitions.
Our Olympic sized pool has been utilised for domestic and international Waterpolo competition too, including National League matches and Cup events, and we were delighted to be selected as host facility for the hugely successful European Junior Men’s Qualification Group “A” in May 2006.
We are pleased to say that we are also the host venue for the Munster Canoe Polo League and this year the National Lifesaving Championships will take place at our venue for the very first time.
